Description:
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Cynthia St. Hilaire studying the mechanisms driving vascular and valvular calcification and vessel remodeling. The successful candidate will use in vitro and in vivo disease models to identify and characterize novel mechanisms regulating calcification deposition, the breakdown of the extracellular matrix, and the transdifferentiation of a healthy cell into an osteogenic cell.

The St. Hilaire laboratory is in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh and is part of the Pittsburgh Heart, Lung, and Blood, Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI). The VMI is home to several laboratories performing cutting edge basic and translational cardiovascular research. Postdoctoral researchers in the VMI have access to exceptional core facilities and benefit from the unique career and mentoring opportunities available in the VMI. Established collaborations with clinicians at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute provide a unique opportunity for direct translational research and access to human biological samples. Qualifications:
Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD required. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills, along with experience in cell culture, molecular and biochemical assays, and studies involving small animals. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in vascular biology or related diseases. Eligibility to apply for NIH Fellowships or T32 Training Grants would also be a distinct advantage.
