Position Details

School / Department: School of Medicine / OB-Gyn & Reproductive Science
Classification: Postdoctoral Associate
Funding source: NIH Grant
Start Date: 7/1/2021
Description: This collaborative project encompasses work in the laboratories of Dr Yoel Sadovsky (Magee-Womens Research Institute, “MWRI”, Department of OBGYN and Reproductive Sciences) and Dr Alexander Sorkin (Department of Cell Biology). Research at MWRI focuses on reproductive biology and development, targeting diverse areas that affect women’s health. Research in the Department of Cell Biology centers on endocytosis and post-endocytic trafficking that regulates cell function. Drs Sorkin and Sadovsky have been collaborating for several years on cellular processes that are essential for differentiation and function of placental trophoblasts, with a focus on endocytic pathways that regulate the entry and intracellular processing of small extracellular vesicles and their microRNA (miRNA) cargo. See for information on Dr Sadovsky's research and for information on Dr Sorkin's research.
Qualifications: We have an opening for a highly motivated post-doctoral associate with an interest in the biology of exosomes, miRNA and related technologies. Applicants should have a PhD or MD/PhD degree in a biomedical field with 0-2 years of post-doctoral experience, preferably with miRNA and/or endocytic trafficking. Relevant knowledge and skills include contemporary molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, microscopy, and solid computer abilities. The work will take place in the labs of Drs Sorkin and Sadovsky. Pay is as defined by the Ruth Kirschstein NRSA stipend, and funding period is for at least 3 years. Please send CV, including research experience and names of two referees to Dr. Sadovsky as noted below.
